Okemclean®

A Product of Chemetall US In.
Highly alkaline cleaner for spray or agitated immersion applications

Primary Application

Okemclean is a low-foaming, heavy-duty detergent specially formulated for application either in high pressure spray washers or in agitated immersion tanks. The multi-metal cleaner removes a multitude of tenacious soils at energy-saving temperatures as low as 27 °C (80 °F). It’s effective on most metals, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, copper, brass and magnesium.

Solutions of the highly alkaline liquid take off many of industry’s toughest soils. Among them are heavy fabricating soils, drawing and buffing compounds, carbonaceous deposits, grease and shop soils. The low-foamer is excellent for cleaning mixed-metal parts in high-pressure spray washers. Backed by the spray’s impact, Okemclean’s powerful blend of surfactants and other cleaning agents rips into and loosens stubborn soils. These are swept away by thorough rinsing, leaving metal surfaces in an ideally clean condition for subsequent processing.

Application Procedure: Initial Solution Makeup Ensure the equipment is clean and the nozzles are properly aligned. Fill the tank to about 80% of its capacity with clean water. Add the required amount of Okemclean. Mix and heat to operating temperature. Operation Spray: Use Okemclean in spray washers at 2 – 10% by volume, 80 – 180 °F (27 – 82 °C), spray pressure of 10 – 25 psi (0.7 – 1.7 bars) and 1 – 3 minutes. Exact concentration, temperature, pressure and exposure time depend on soils, extent of soil build-up in solution and conveyor line speed. Agitated Immersion: Use Okemclean in agitated immersion tanks at 5 – 10% by volume, 130 – 180 °F (54 – 82 °C) and 2 – 10 minutes. Exact concentration, temperature and immersion time depend on degree of agitation, soils and extent of soil build-up in solution. Solution Measurement: The concentration is measured using Gardotest Procedure 92 with a 25 ml sample. The conversion factor from free alkalinity to percent by volume is 1.45. Bath life can be estimated using, Gardotest Procedure 123 with a 10 ml sample and Gardotest Solution 57. Solution Replenishment: The solution can be replenished based on the percent by volume titration from Gardotest Procedure 92. Alternatively, the solution can be replenished directly by the Free Alkalinity (T) from Gardotest Procedure 92. To increase the Free Alkalinity (T) by 1.0 ml, add 1.45 gallon of Okemclean per 100 gal (14.5 liters per 1000 liters). Equipment: The Chemetall Electrodeless Conductivity/Concentration Control System and Chemical Metering Pump can be used to monitor and automatically maintain the concentration of this product using conductivity.
